Power Outage Mapping Service
A website that maps live power outages worldwide, providing users with real-time information about outages in their area.
Problem Solved
During power outages, residents often lack timely updates on the situation. This service offers a reliable source of information that can help users stay informed.
Skills Required
Web development, data analysis, SEO, and knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS).
Why this works now
Homeowners in areas prone to severe weather events often face uncertainty during power outages. The integration of real-time outage data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) allows for accurate mapping of outages. The initial revenue move could involve targeted ads on r/weather, which attracts users seeking timely updates. A significant challenge in the first year will be securing partnerships with utility companies, as many have strict data-sharing regulations that could delay access to critical information.
